First visit to a chiropractor usually take approximately 30 minutes to one hour to complete.

While waiting for the consultation, you will be asked to complete the required paperwork to help the chiropractors get a better idea of your health condition, symptoms and family medical history. It is important for you to state about other health providers and treatments you may have received in the past and are receiving at the present when you fill the form. Example of common questions will be asked:

  • When did the pain start? Was there any injury?
  • Which part of the body do you feel pain?
  • Describe the pain. How often the pain occurs and how long it lasts?
  • How you dealt with pain?

Next, you will go through a physical exam to determine if you may benefit from a chiropractic care. In this stage, your chiropractor will focus on a series of tests for seeing how your spinal joint, muscles and nerves are functioning both individually and together. You might be sent for an X-ray if your chiropractor feels that further evaluation is needed. In the meantime, your chiropractor will explain how spinal problems may occur, the treatments for disorder of the musculoskeletal system and you may have some questions about your health condition to be answered by a chiropractic profession.

After the consultation and examination, findings from the combination of your symptoms and prior injuries or family medical history lead to a specific diagnosis. At this time, your chiropractor will explain to you what they found in the examination and what they believe to be the cause of your problem. They will determine whether your condition needs chiropractic care. If it is, they will design a best course of treatment based on your situation.

Depending on your situation, your chiropractor may perform a portion of adjustment as initial treatment on your first visit. If there is any treatment needed, your chiropractor will inform you the further follow-up visits section. Follow-up visits take much less time, usually not more than 30 minutes.
